UGH. The amount of hypocrisy involved in pushing and begging for a pairing which doesn't exist in canon and involves a character who also does not exist in canon while spewing flames of rage over, for example, Sulu/Rand being non-canonical.

AT LEAST THEY INTERACTED IN A BLATANTLY FLIRTATIOUS MANNER ON SCREEN.

Not at all your point, but the way you worded this gave me this rather amusing mental image of you sitting, possibly with your hair pulled back in a severe bun, glaring at them if they dared get within a certain physical range of one another.

(However, I also just drew a herd of reindeer destroying a city inhabited by meaniepants, so perhaps my imagination needs to be given a talking-to.)
