I guess they didn't totally make it up for X-Force

"Don't sweat it, Boom-Boom. It's not much worse than bein' in jail! My dad and I were thrown in jail in Costa Rica -- did I ever tell you? He --" Rictor, page 19, New Mutants #79

Incidentally, page 20 has Rictor explaining his relationship with Boom-Boom to Sam.

Sam: Give her some space, Ric. She'll snap out of it.
Ric: I don't know. This isn't ordinary Boom-Boom dramatics. All this... Asgard... really bothers her. She saved me, once, you know. The Right Organization cyborgs who'd tortured me once were after me again. And I was ready to die, rather than let them have me. Maybe it was enlightened self-interest on Boom-Boom's part... After all, there was a good chance that, if I went, I'd take her with me... But she talked me out of dying. It was a turning point for me. I was able to grab hold of myself, for her sake. I owe her, Sam. She thinks she's so tough, but she's not really. I know her, probably better than she knows herself. I try and watch out for her, and boss her around and steer her when she goes wrong. I won't let her down, Sam... no matter what...

He hovers over her a lot, too. Sits next to her at dinner with the dwarfs, etc. And actually, poor Artie would have loved this dinner, and I don't mean because the kid's got dwarfism. I remember him trying to convince Skids to make anchovy sandwiches.

Ric: Good grub, Eitri.
Boom-Boom: If you like pickled herring...

I like pickled herring. :9

Evidently, so does Rictor.

I propose a trip to Sweden! :D

ONWARD TO SWEDEN!

*hops in little Viking ship and takes out an equally tiny oar*

So as long as we don't inadvertently get waylaid at Britain and buried under a pub, we're good! :D

Must you always be so pessimistic? X3

[identity profile] eliyes.livejournal.com 2007-09-14 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
I can be pessimistic in the face of the delightful prospect of Sweden. (We wouldn't even make the news, because it's been done. But maybe we could get some neat torcs out of it. Brooches. That kinda thing. :D )

[identity profile] kiffie.livejournal.com 2007-09-14 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
I has a torc. It has raven terminals. :D

:o
Such a lucky Kiff. Someday I will plunder your hoard. If you become a dragon, that is. Or maybe I'll buy you more stuff! Hard to say. :3

We can share. If knights come to raid it, they will have to deal with BOTH of us singing showtunes. :3

Can get torcs here: http://www.craftycelts.com/

One throwaway line about being in Costa Rica -- for whatever reason -- doesn't constitute grounds for the shite that was written about him afterwords, imo. :P

[identity profile] eliyes.livejournal.com 2007-09-13 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
No, but it proves that that flashback to him and his dad in a jail in Costa Rica in X-Force #34 wasn't made up just in that issue. Not saying I like what they did with that, but at least they were drawing on stuff the character had said.

*shrugs* That's still only one snip.

It doesn't explain all the rest of the clusterfuck they wrote --

Nothing ever will.

Except maybe drugs.

Why can't Marvel get the frigging Crisis all the damn time?

The gods know they're the ones that need it. -_-

Crisis of Infinite Mutants.

Even we never could make it stick.

Yes, but I wonder how much of our own failure was two paradigms colliding.

It'd be different if they did it.

It would probably suck. :/
