They've made a HAIRSPRAY movie!

The first time I ever heard about this musical was a friend complaining that his boyfriend was obsessed with it, but it looks cute.

And also, it has Christopher Walken in a potentially dancing role, and John Travolta playing a woman.

And that Zac Efram guy, I think someone on my flist mentioned him once or twice? ;3

Okay, well anyway, that guy. He will be playing "Link". He is not as cute as Josh. But he is kinda cute.

You know, I wasn't thrilled with the casting, but the more I see of him all Linked up the more I like it. I'm a little conflicted about the movie in general, because I have a long history with Hairspray (I loved it when it was still just a wacky John Waters movie!), but right now I am cautiously optimistic.

I have no history with it whatsoever, but I do have a tendancy to research the everliving heck out of stuff I get interested in, so maybe this new movie will bring a whole bunch of new fans to the original?

It's possible! The original is a whole lot darker, though. (And honestly, being the peppy person I am I think I probably prefer the musical.)

...I dunno, I think given that Billy and Freddie were both orphaned Newsies -- and Freddie was an orphaned crippled Newsie -- their avoidance would be understandable.
