When asked why the writers (particularly Martin Gero) decided Rodney McKay's actual first name was Meredith, David Hewlett claimed that it was because Martin Gero is a jerk.

I am not disputing this. ;)

But I wonder if the particular name was at all inspired by one of the co-founders of YouTube, whose middle name is, that's right, Meredith.

Is he Welsh background? It's common to use what we consider girl's names for Welsh boys. (my grandparents have a male friend names Vivian)
